Paardekooper and Henri Willig develop premium cheese packaging
Especially for the gold-winning family line, cheese maker Henri Willig was looking for a distinctive and exclusive gift packaging. Clients really buy something special. The company was looking for packaging that would emphasise this special feeling even more and came to Paardekooper. Together we developed packaging with the desired wow-effect.

Paardekooper and Henri Willig develop premium cheese packaging
Especially for the gold-winning family line, cheese maker Henri Willig was looking for a distinctive and exclusive gift packaging. Clients really buy something special. The company was looking for packaging that would emphasise this special feeling even more and came to Paardekooper. Together we developed packaging with the desired wow-effect.

High demands on packaging
The Katwoude-based cheese maker developed an exclusive family cheese line, consisting of the five favourite flavours of founders Henri and Riet Willig and their three sons Wiebe, Martin and Jacob. The entire line of cheeses was awarded gold at the DLG awards. The cheeses are characterised not only by their excellent flavour, but also by the unique engraving that is traditionally is applied to the cheese one by one. "The cheese pieces are a showpiece in themselves," says Cindy Konijn, Retail Buyer at Henri Willig. "Every element you add has to contribute to the special experience. So the bar for the new packaging was incredibly high. Fortunately, Paardekooper's creative team knew how to handle this."
Creative inspiration session
"During an inspiration session, we presented various possibilities," says Simone Lagendijk, Account Manager Retail at Paardekooper. "Then you soon find each other in the right direction. Eventually, we fleshed out a number of models. We did this in our own studio, because requesting samples takes time and Henri Willig wanted to introduce the new line before Christmas. Based on the models, the choice for a pop-up box was made. We then did request samples of this from the supplier, so the customer could properly assess the final product."
Special format pop-up box
"We really liked that," said Dianne Philipsen, Manager of Formula & Marketing at Henri Willig. "This allowed us to properly assess whether the lacquer print came across well and the chosen colours matched our premium look. And not unimportantly: whether everything works well." "A pop-up box of this size can be called quite special," Simone adds. "You have to deal with specific design requirements to be able to unfold the box in one move. So among other things, we were stuck to a minimum height. We are happy with this result."
Thought of everything
The choice of a pop-up gift box was a conscious decision for Cindy and Dianne. Dianne explains: "Our pieces of family cheese may only go with the customer in this packaging. As mentioned, the customer really buys something unique and we reinforce that feeling through this luxury gift packaging. To make it as easy as possible for our employees, we were looking for handy and user-friendly packaging. Just like our carrier bags the pop-up gift box fits in the checkout area. The boxes are delivered flat and can be set up in one move. Furthermore, the boxes are made of FSC®-certified cardboard. The packaging is just right. Everything has been thought of, partly thanks to the way we approached this project together with Paardekooper. They have knowledge of materials, print and possibilities and gave us excellent advice in this area."

Going for gold together
The collaboration between the family firms Paardekooper and Henri Willig goes back many years back. "We value sustainability, also when it comes to relationships," emphasises Cindy. "This is very pleasant. Once again, Paardekooper has proven itself to be the partner we can trust. The enthusiasm and expertise with which they take on these projects like this is very pleasant. Our companies make no concessions when it comes to quality. We go for gold together."
